Psychotherapy
I provide individual, group and couples therapy. My approach to psychotherapy integrates relational, somatic and psychodynamic therapy with Buddhist psychology and practices. While I am coming from a Buddhist worldview, the work with each client starts from the clients’ spiritual principles and practices and we work within the clients’ worldview and system. The way this plays out with each individual is unique, and together with my clients we co-create a relational dynamic that values the unique needs and expression of each person. My approach with clients is engaged, active, and present-focused.
I view individual therapy as a dynamic process of clearing the mental, emotional and behavioral habits that keep us stuck and blocked from realizing our true nature, potentiality, and happiness birthright. In therapy with my clients, I center my interpersonal connection to clients’ underlying freedom and potential for personal transformation even when we are deep in the weeds of clients’ suffering.
Areas of specialization include:
Anxiety and Depression
Grief
Eating Disorders, Addition and Recovery
Life Transitions
Chronic and Acute Illness
Parenting and Reproductive Mental Health
Trauma
Family and Relationship Concerns
Spiritual and Existential Concerns
Individual therapy sessions are conducted weekly, and depending on clients’ concerns, I encourage and support clients to complement therapy with yoga, meditation practice, psycho-education, physical exercise, spiritual practice and study, and/or group therapy.
The most important and effective key to therapy is finding a good match between therapist and client. The unique relationship has to be a “good fit” within the context of a safe, compassionate, confidential, consistent and reliable relational environment. Given the importance of finding a good therapeutic fit, I encourage clients to consider the first couple of sessions with me to be a time to mutually discern whether we are a good match, and to interview other prospective therapists.
Meditation
I offer individual and group meditation guidance and consultation informed by Buddhist psychology and practice. Meditation consultation is not only about meditation practices and working with the mind in meditation, but more importantly explores the psychology and philosophy that holds the true medicine and healing of meditation practices.
Supervision
I provide clinical supervision and training for professionals in health care interested in integrating contemplative skills, principals and practices into their professional development and clinical work. Please find out more about my group practice and clinical supervision at Contemplative Psychology PC.
